BhimtalBhimtal

The lake-town of Bhimtal is just 4 kms away from Naukuchiatal.

Like the other hill-stations around, Bhimtal too traces its origin back to the days of the Mahabharata. The place takes its name from Bhima, the second son of Pandu and Kunti who was considered to have the physical prowess of a hundred and twenty five pachyderms.

The Bhimtal Lake, which is over 3 kms in circumference is the prime attraction of the town. On a corner of this lake stands a temple dedicated to Bhima – it is known as the Bhimeshwar Temple.

Bhimtal is also famous in the region for the many educational institutes that it houses. The Tassar Regional Research Centre run by the Ministry of Textiles, Govt of India and the Birla Institute of Applied Sciences are the more famous of these.
